LAHORE — The historic cultural capital of Punjab is gearing up for an unprecedented spectacle as the Punjab government officially approved a magnificent 10-day Basant festival scheduled to light up Lahore’s skies from January 29 to February 7, 2027.

The announcement was finalized following a high-level review meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who directed provincial authorities to make comprehensive arrangements for the extended celebrations. According to the revised schedule, festivities will run continuously across the city with a brief, mandatory pause on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day with due solemnity and respect.

The decision to extend the iconic spring celebration into a 10-day gala builds upon the successful return of Basant earlier this year, which marked the revival of the traditional festival after a long hiatus. Provincial ministers and local administration officials emphasized that the upcoming edition will showcase Punjab's rich cultural heritage, music, food, and legendary hospitality on an even grander scale, welcoming domestic and international tourists alike.

To ensure public safety remains the top priority, the government has mandated strict adherence to regulatory frameworks. District administrations have been instructed to enforce comprehensive safety measures, strictly banning hazardous, chemically treated, or metallic kite strings while promoting certified eco-friendly materials. Special monitoring squads, rooftop inspection teams, and swift municipal response units will be deployed across all zones to guarantee a secure environment for families and participants.

Furthermore, civic agencies are mapping out extensive public facilitation plans, including augmented public transport networks, illuminated street corridors, and designated cultural hotspots across the walled city and modern commercial hubs. Following the massive influx of visitors and economic activity witnessed during the previous season, local traders, hoteliers, and artisans are already preparing for a massive economic boost.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has urged citizens, community leaders, and youth organizations to demonstrate exemplary civic sense and cooperate fully with law enforcement and safety officials. By balancing traditional joyous expression with uncompromising safety protocols, Lahore is poised to deliver a world-class cultural festival that honors its centuries-old heritage while setting a positive benchmark for future celebrations.
