CORONA, Calif. — Law enforcement officials in Southern California have successfully intercepted a potentially devastating mass casualty plot, arresting two teenage girls accused of planning a school shooting. The swift intervention underscores the vital role of federal digital monitoring and inter-agency cooperation in neutralizing threats before violence can materialize on a school campus.
The Corona Police Department, acting alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, and local school district officials, confirmed the arrests of the two 15-year-old suspects. According to investigators, the teenagers—who attend Corona High School and Norco High School—spent months meticulously planning a revenge-based attack targeting Corona High School.
Months of Research and Targeted Planning
The chilling plot came to light after the FBI flagged suspicious online communications and social media chats. Federal investigators alerted the Corona Police Department, initiating a deep-dive probe that revealed the depth of the conspiracy.
Police officials disclosed that the two suspects spent several months researching previous high-profile school shootings, analyzing past tragedies to map out a blueprint. Investigators reviewing the digital evidence discovered that the teens possessed a specific map of the high school campus, detailed notes on how they planned to execute the attack, and a targeted hit list containing the names of specific students and teachers.
"They were trying to make specific plans as to how they were going to carry out this revenge-based attack," noted Corona Police Department Lieutenant Robert Montanez.
Investigation Yields No Weapons
Authorities executed search warrants at the suspects' residences. While the digital communications showed that the girls had actively discussed various methods to acquire firearms, investigators confirmed that the teens had not yet been successful in obtaining any weapons. No firearms or explosive materials were recovered during the searches, and officials believe no weapons are currently outstanding.
Because law enforcement intervened during the planning phase, no actual attack occurred, and no injuries were reported. The school campus, which serves more than 2,000 students across grades 9 through 12, was not placed on lockdown as the arrests were executed smoothly outside of school grounds.
Legal Proceedings and Community Response
Both teenagers are currently being held in custody facing serious charges of conspiracy to commit murder. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office is actively reviewing the case file to determine formal court filings.
The Corona-Norco Unified School District released a statement praising the rapid response of law enforcement and reassuring families that campus safety remains the absolute top priority. Officials also used the harrowing incident to reiterate the critical importance of the "see something, say something" philosophy, urging parents and students to immediately report suspicious online behavior or concerning remarks to school administrators or local police.
As the joint investigation between local police and federal partners moves forward, authorities have asked anyone with additional information regarding the suspects' online activity to contact local detectives.
