KARACHI — Gold prices in local domestic markets registered a noticeable upward trajectory, tracking a renewed recovery in global bullion rates as international investors recalibrated safe-haven assets.
Market Adjustments in Local Sarafa Markets
According to figures issued by the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association, the price of 24-karat gold recorded a steady gain in major metropolitan centers including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. Pure 24-karat gold settled at approximately Rs. 435,100 per tola, while the rate for 10 grams reached around Rs. 373,030. Similarly, 22-karat gold saw a corresponding bump, trading at roughly Rs. 398,841 per tola.
The domestic shift mirrors developments on international bourses, where spot gold prices bounced back from recent minor dips. Analysts note that foreign bullion markets experienced renewed buying interest, driving global spot prices higher and instantly transmitting the cost adjustments down to local sarafa boards across Pakistan.
Drivers Behind the Global Bullion Recovery
Market watchers attribute the international rebound to a mixture of shifting macroeconomic indicators, currency fluctuations, and ongoing geopolitical uncertainties. As global financial markets digest fresh data regarding monetary policy outlooks and inflation metrics, institutional and retail investors have increasingly turned back to gold as a reliable hedge against market volatility.
Because Pakistan imports the entirety of its raw bullion requirements to meet domestic demand, local prices remain highly sensitive to international spot fluctuations and the prevailing exchange rate of the US dollar against the Pakistani Rupee. Even minor adjustments in global markets quickly translate into visible pricing shifts at local jewelers.
Consumer Caution and Market Sentiment
Despite the upward correction, local bullion dealers report that consumer activity remains measured. High absolute price levels have prompted many retail buyers to adopt a cautious "wait-and-watch" approach, limiting bulk purchases of bridal and investment gold. Conversely, bullion traders continue to monitor overseas market indicators closely, anticipating further volatility as global economic data unfolds in the coming weeks.
