Sri Lanka Cricket has announced its 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Pakistan, delivering a major surprise by omitting senior batter and former stand-in captain Charith Asalanka.
Squad Changes and Leadership Shift
The decision to drop Asalanka comes shortly after Sri Lanka's challenging white-ball outings. Asalanka had previously captained the side during their T20 series against England following an injury to regular skipper Kusal Mendis. With Mendis now fully recovered, he returns to reclaim his position at the helm of the national squad.
Selectors opted for a blend of youth and experience in crafting the 15-player lineup, leaving out Asalanka as part of a strategic reshuffle in the batting order. The touring party features key figures such as veteran all-rounder Dasun Shanaka, aggressive opener Kamil Mishara, and spin spearhead Maheesh Theekshana.
Tour Schedule and Preparations
The visiting Sri Lankan team is scheduled to depart for Pakistan, with the action set to unfold at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The T20 series will kick off on October 9, with subsequent matches scheduled through October 13.
Following the conclusion of the shortest format encounters, both teams will transition into an upcoming tri-nation ODI tournament commencing later in the month.
